The Differences Between Digital And Traditional Marketing Practice

Traditional Marketing:

Traditional marketing is all marketing done along the lines of TV adverts, magazine adverts, local/national newspaper adverts, flyers, brochures, bus shelter adverts, billboards and radio station adverts. These are just some of the means of traditional marketing, which a business might use to varying degrees.

Take for instance TV adverts, they are great for reaching many potential customers in one go… so your companies advert about baby wipes will be seen by a lot of people.

But that is no good to your company if the customer is a single man watching TV when that advert comes on. The advert is not focused on potential customers and feedback on the advert can be poor as there is no real time feedback coming in. It could be a few weeks or months before you see that sales have increased or decreased due to a traditional marketing campaign.

Digital Marketing:

Smart phones, tablets and laptops are now part of our everyday lives and along with the rise of this technology, has come the way of focusing adverts to align with potential customers needs and wants.

There was a time when even banner adverts were advertising unfocused products and services to viewers of web pages, but now with SEO, google adverts and analysis of your personal data and the pages and things you have “liked” on Facebook, we are bombarded with focused adverts each day online.

Websites, Facebook adverts and suggestion pages, banner adverts, social media recommendations and YouTube videos that promote products in reviews and previews all are forms of digital marketing.

This style of advertising is not much different from conventional advertising except for the fact that it is being broadcast on a vast array of digital devices.

Marketing your products or company to anyone and everyone who might be tuning into a certain TV channel, at a given time is not the best use of a companies or individuals marketing budget, when you can reach those who are most likely to need or desire your products by going the digital marketing and advertising route.
